January 24, 2011 Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

Another week flew by and I find myself running late posting again.  By the way, I added a link to my Webshots website where I posted a library of my old handmade cards before I started this blog.  Just click on the link on the right hand side below my profile.

Here's a recap of what we did in class this past Monday.
This first card has 2 parts.  The vase was done by punching out the vase and leaving the hole on the white card.  It is then filled in from the back with ribbons using a pattern called Fancy Folding.  After the vase is completed and tape to the card front, the top is filled in with different punched flowers and leaves with pearl centers.

This 2nd card is made with punching the scallop border onto half a green card stock.  Glued only about 2/3 of the green card and paste onto a white card background.  The top orange card stock is slide under the green scallop card and secure with a brad on the side.  Tide the orange ribbon around the orange card with the bow to the left.  Stamp the wine bottle and glasses on white card stock, color with watercolor and tape on green card stock.  Add foam tape above and below the ribbon and add the image on top.

 

This Anniversary card is made with a fancy ribbon taped onto pretty designer paper on the bottom of an embossed white card base.  Accent with a fancy button white flower.

This last card uses a green, blue and pearl alcohol ink and mixing solution onto a felt applicator by Tim Holtz and pounce onto a white glossy card stock.  The image is stamped with Staz-On permanent black ink on top of the inked background.  The corners are punched at opposite corners of the green and black card stocks and slide in from the top one layer at a time.

January 10, 2011 Card Making Class

Happy New Year everyone!

Hope everyone had a great holiday season!  Sorry for the late post.  I guess there's no break in the new year.  Busy as usual!  Here are the cards we made in class.

This first card has a red belly band wrapped around with a white tag and a pink purse (both using punches) in the middle that slide out.  The card opens up in the middle decorated with pattern papers glued on each side of the card front and trimmed with gold trim stickers.

This 2nd card uses Japanese Washi papers and Mizuhiki cords taped on double-sided tape to create the pattern shown.  It was then adhered on top of a black card stock and onto a white card base.  The sentiment sticker was added afterward.

 The 3rd card used a cherry tree image sticker on white card stock and painted with Twinkling H2O watercolors.  The white card was then adhered onto a red card base.  This card was made for Chinese New Year, but any other sentiments would work beautifully just the same.

This last card was a tri-fold card using a 12"x 5-1/2" beige card base and folded at 4" and 8".  The front is decorated with flower sticker on a white and a green card stock.  A pink ribbon was wrapped around the white card stock

 The inside was decorated with more stickers on white, pink and brown card stocks as shown below.

December 13, 2010 Card Making Class

Happy Holidays everyone!
This is going to be a quick post.  Below are the cards we made in our last class meeting.  As usual, everyone brought lots of food with not much time to eat.

The black and white birthday card was made by placing the dress, shoes & purse stickers on pattern papers and cut out.  The black panel edges were punched out from EK Success border punch and trimmed with more silver stickers.

The anniversary card was made from different types of pattern paper strips taped on double-sided tape on the die cut heart shape card stock with Japanese Mizuhiki strips.  Adhere with foam tape on top of cream texture paper background, mat with olive color paper, and add ribbon before adhering on to card.

This Iris Folding pudding cake was made using 3 different color pattern papers and following the pattern.  Start by tracing the curve of the plate on to gray pattern paper, add the strips of color pattern papers on lower part of the cake, and then follow the numbering pattern.  The candles were punched out of red and yellow card stock and glue together.

 In response to Ellen's request, we did these fun gift tags using an old Hero Arts stamp set and some business card paper that I bought a while ago.  The images were stamped with pigment black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The tags were then colored with Twinkling H2O; the buttons were threaded with yarn and adhered with double stick tapes.

November 29, 2010 Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

Another hectic week!  Sorry for the late post.  Here's a recap of the cards we made in class.

The card below was made with the special pattern papers I have glued on the front.  The card was then trimmed with the gold snowflake stickers around the pattern papers.  The punch poinsettia was made using 2 punched 5-petal flowers and 2 punched holy leaves with gold glitter glue in the center.  The sentiment was stamped on a punched white card stock.

 The birthday card below was made with a pre-embossed white glossy card frame.  The center was made using a clear cellophane bag with happy birthday paper and some birthday confetti inside.  Finished off with a ribbon on the bottom half and popped up with foam dots.

The Hanukkah card was made by folding the front of the card back with more of the special pattern papers glued to the folded front panel.  The die-cut Star of David was glued on top of a square white and blue card oriented at a diagonal on top of the front panel.  The inside of the card was lined with a slightly smaller white card stock with a stamped sentiment.

The snowflakes card was made by first brushing 3/4 of the card front with glue pen and covered with glitters.  Punched several snowflakes on a vellum piece and glued to the bottom of a piece of snowflake paper.  The snowflake and vellum piece was glued then to the card front.  Add organza ribbon to the middle where the paper and vellum were taped together.  Note that the vellum was only taped on the top edge behind the snowflake paper so the tape would not show through.

This pirate monkeys waterfall card is an early version of the card we made in class.  Since Ellen and Lesley had to borrow my card to finish their homework, I'm using the photos of the one I made earlier for my co-worker's grandson.  Everything is basically the same except I moved the monkey on the bottom to the inside of the card and a black tab was added to the pull handle on the new card.  All the dimensions are the same as what I sent out in the emails before.  Please email me if you need me to send it to you again.  Basically, all the images were stamped in black ink and color with Prismacolor pencils except for the background which was stamped with brown ink pad.  The edges were also sponged with brown ink.

November 15, 2010 Cards

Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving,

Sorry for the late post.  I was busy getting ready for the Holiday Crafts Fair on Saturday and busy putting everything back!  It was not as successful as I had hoped.  Of course, it didn't help that I got there late because of the rain.  So I didn't get the primo spot that Alice was trying so hard to keep.  Thank you Alice!  You're a pal! Lesson learned!

I don't think it would have matter anyway.  I was able to sell some stickers, a couple packs of papers and ONE of my handmade cards.  So, I took all my cards back to work and gave them to a friend who is having a get together with her friends for Thanksgiving.  She's been buying most of my cards to give to these same girl friends.  Hopefully, she'll be able to sell more cards than me! ;o)

Actually, it wasn't all that bad!  I had fun sharing the booth with my friend Kathy who sold some of her special handmade soaps and seeing some friends that I haven't seen for quite some time.  Thanks Barbara and Karla for stopping by!  You made it all worthwhile!

Of course, we also had family visiting with us on Sunday, my brother-in-law Chris, his wife Ines and their kids Evan and Samantha.  So it was a very busy weekend for me!  Ines also bought some of my cards.  Thank you Ines!  Hope she wasn't feeling pity for me! ;o)  Naah!

OK, enough of my whining!  On with the cards!

This card was made to stand up like an easel.  The front was made with some of the papers that I had for sale.  (Only $1 a pack of 10 if anyone wish to buy some!)  The edges were trimmed with the silver snowflake stickers (also for sale for $1/sheet).  Wow, I guess I haven't gotten rid of my selling mode yet!  The inside dark blue panel is trimmed with snowflake ribbon, placed on to a lighter blue panel that was punched with scallop border punch, and then pop up with foam tape.  Of course, we had to add the final touches by adding some blings to the center of each flower of the card front.

The butterfly card below was made by applying the butterfly stickers on to different color shimmering wrapping papers and cut out.  The butterflies are then taped on to the card with foam tape.  Add a silver blue ribbon and that's it!  Easy!

The teapot card is actually a gift card holder.  The base of the card front was stamped with clear VersaMark ink and colored by rubbing a cotton ball with some orange/coral pastel chalk on top.  The teapot and tea cup were rub-ons to the white panel glued on to the orange panel.  The card was taped only 3 sides leaving the top open to insert a gift card.

This reindeer card was made by stamping snowflakes along the side and bottom of the card front with brown ink.  I also sponged it with brown ink, but I'm not sure I like the sponge look.  The reindeer was simply taped on with some sticky tape.  Add a ribbon and it's done!

November 1, 2010 Card Class

Hello everyone,

Well, Halloween is now over and the holidays are just around the corner.  Can you believe the heat wave we're having?  Sorry we missed you Carol!  Hope you're feeling better!

As promised, here are the cards we made on Monday.   Enjoy!

This 1st card is made with different lengths of olive green rig-rags, some red and gold blings, and a gold star on top.  I forgot to take a photo of the inside.  It has a small envelope as a gift card holder.  The envelope was stamped with gold stars all over the front and simply glue in the middle.  Some ladies had the top fold rather than on the side.  I thought that was a better idea actually.

The orchid card is simply made with the gold Starform sticker colored with Twinkling H2O watercolors.  A gold and green ribbon is tape on the front flaps.

Some of the ladies want a birthday card for men.  So here it is.  The sails were made with my Sizzlits wide oval die, a large oval punch cut in half for the boat, and one corner of the star punch for the flag.

This card looks simple outside with a scallop circle punch, but scroll down to see what's inside.

 The balloons are tape on both side of the acetate strips and tape into the middle folds together.  The birthday strip was trim with scallop scissors and tape to the front flap.  I made a mistake and tape it to the back flap.  So, the ladies get to see my mistake.  Oops!

Here's a blue version of the flowers card that we made in the previous cards.  It's pretty no matter what color you use!

I have to admit that I get most of my inspirations and ideas from the magazine and internet.  Valita's fresh fold is one of the websites I love.  Until next time.
