December 12, 2011 Card Making Class

Hello ladies,

Hope you are ready for the holidays!  I'm not. ;o) Below are the cards we made in our last class meeting.  They were kept simple as promised so everyone can have a chance to eat.  As it turns out, I was the one who get to have more time to eat! :o)

The first card was made by using these sticker dots and arranged them into a tree shape as shown.  Add a gold bow at the bottom and gold sentiment sticker on the top left.  Mat with black card stock and adhere to a white card base.
This next card also used the same sticker dots on top of white circles using 1" circle punch.  Wrap gold ribbon around gold card stock and adhere the circles as shown.  Punch 2" x 4" white card stock with edge punch and glue to the bottom of gold card stock.  Add gold sentiment and another sticker dot as shown.
The angel for this next card was made by using a butterfly punch out of gold card stock for the wings, large petal punch out of white/gray swirl pattern paper for the body and 3/4 " circle punch out of ivory card stock for the face.  The halo was made by first punching 1/2" circle punch out of gold card stock, and then using a 3/4" circle punch and slit punch right above the just punched 1/2" circle to form a halo.  Add a gold bow around the collar, and adhere to the pattern paper with foam tape.  The pattern paper with the angel was then adhered on top of a blue card stock and finally glued onto the beige card base.  Sentiment was stamped with black ink onto ivory card stock and punched out shape.  Adhere onto card base with foam tape.
This last card was made using Starform vase sticker onto a shiny green and silver paper to give the glassy look and pop up with foam tape onto card base.  Flowers and leaves were punched out using different punches and shimmery color papers. Adhere pearls in the flower centers and glue above the vase as shown.  Add silver sticker sentiment onto die cut scallop oval.  Wrap ribbon around the card center and round off corners of card base as shown.
That's it for this year!  The Winter 2012 session will begin Monday January 9 to March 19, 2012.  The class will meet every other Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 7 at Ranch Del Mar Adult Education Campus, except February 20 (holiday).  Email me if you have any questions.  Have a safe and happy holiday!  See you next year!

This reindeer card was made with die cut reindeers using Spellbinder die on gold card stock, gold embossed pattern paper was glued on the bottom half, punch-out tags with gold sticker sentiment, and finished it off with gold & red ribbon.
This card was made with die cuts train with blue diamond and red/orange diamond papers to decorate the bottom half.  Black & White ribbons trimmed the center with punch out tag and stamped sentiment.
Last but not least, the Iris Folding card of a golden holly berry basket!  The card was made using the Iris Folding pattern with 2 gold pattern papers and a plain gold paper twice.  The holly leaves were punched out of dark green card stock and red blings for the berries.

October 31, 2011 Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

As usual, two weeks got away from me in a flash!  I had a quick, but nice visit with my aunt and uncle from Australia before they left to visit my grandfather.
Just a quick reminder - we don't have class this coming Monday Nov. 14, 2011.  It was not scheduled because we thought it was a scheduled holiday initially.  Our next class will be on the Monday after Thanksgiving (11/28/11).
Below are the cards we made in class.  Starting with this simple card.  The card base was pre-cut in the center with a blue background inside.  The image was simply stamped with black ink, blue ribbon tied around the left with a simple knot and a sentiment silver sticker placed on blue circle adhered on to the bottom right of the card with foam tape.
This next card was made by taping the suede tan ribbon on to an embossed leave card stock with a sheer poka-dot green ribbon tied around the card.  The whole ensemble was then taped onto a kraft color card base.  The gold sentiment and leaves stickers were placed onto a punched ivory shape.  The kraft backing was punched out using the same punch, cut in half and taped slightly off onto the back of ivory shape to simulate a matted background.
This olive green floral shape was cut out using Spellbinder Lotus die, silk leaves were glued around the inner circle using glue dots to resemble a wreath.  The colorful fall ribbon was taped onto the center of the shiny red card front.  The wreath was adhered on top of the ribbon with foam tape.  Stamp sentiment and sponge edges with brown ink and punch out using oval punch.  It's then adhered with foam tape on the bottom of card.
This next card has a bookmark added to the front pocket of the card to make a nice gift.  The bookmark was made by heat embossed the stamped image with white embossing ink onto glossy bookmark.  Using distress ink (peeled paint & broken china) to sponge on the top and bottom of the bookmark blending in until the desired colors are achieved.  Since the image was embossed in white embossing ink, it will pop out from the background.  A sheer ribbon was looped through the hole on the top.  The front pocket was made by scoring and folding up about 2" from a piece of double-sided pattern paper and adhere using aqua color brads on each side.  The top of pattern paper was rounded off before adhering to the front of a white card base.  The silver birthday sentiment was added onto a white punched shape with the aqua color background achieved by cutting the punched shape in half and staggered it behind the white shape.
That's it for now.  Hope you have a great Thanksgiving and see you all back Monday 11/28/11!  If you have any questions, email me.

October 17, 2011 Card Making Class

Hello ladies,

Hope you had a nicer couple of weeks than I did!  ;o)  Late again as usual!  Here are the cards we made almost 2 weeks ago.
This first card is made by punching out 8 flowers, sponged edges with pink ink.  Cut or tear pink pattern paper with a slope down as shown, tie a sheer ribbon around top and glue down to card base.  Adhere flowers along the curve by adding glue to flower centers.  Add the pink gems in the center of each flower, stamp sentiment on the bottom of card and sponge card edges.
The cream rose on this card was made by using a die cut felt scallop circle, cutting spiral from out edge to the center and rolling from the center of the spiral outward.  The leaves were made by cutting freehand out of green felts.  Using a hand punch to punch out the large flower from the top right corner of the olive green scallop card, add foam tape and green sheer ribbon around the bottom and adhere the green scallop card to a pale yellow card base.  Glue the felt rose and leave through the top opening.  Using the same flower punch to punch out a beige flower for the silver sticker sentiment and foam tape onto the ribbon knot.
This cute teddy bear Halloween card was made by cutting out some cute Halloween animals fabric I had when I used to collect fabrics.  Double sided tape was taped on the back of the fabric image and cut out.  The front of the card was made by gluing all the layers of pattern paper and black and white card stock as shown.  The cut out fabric image was tape on top of the white card stock and finished off with the stamped sentiment.
I actually saw a similar pumpkin pie card from a magazine and decided to create my own version with a fancier plate made using a Spellbinder beaded oval die on white card stock.  The pie crust was made with a large scallop circle punch on tan card stock and sponge edges with brown ink.  The pumpkin center was made using a gold circle die cuts that bought, sponging the edges with orange ink.  Glue together before cutting the slice.  Glue pie on top of plate with foam tape.  Glue Thanksgiving paper onto brown card stock.  Wrap ribbon around and tie knot.  Stamp sentiment on tan card stock and punch out with a small scallop circle punch.  Add foam tape in back and adhere on top of the ribbon knot as shown.
Well, that's it for this session!  I need to start preparing for the next class.  Email me if you have any questions or comments.  Thanks for stopping by!  See you all in class Monday.  Have a great weekend!

October 3, 2011 Card Making Class

Hello again,

Since I was late last time, I thought I would get this posted at the first chance I get.  Well, I started early, but didn't quite finished it for posting.  So here it is finally!  I think I might have pushed the envelope a bit trying to fit 5 projects in our 2-hour class.  Poor Ellen was such a good sport trying to keep up with one hand in a cast.  Tennis can be a rough sport sometimes!  I'll be there 15-20 minutes early at the next class if you would like to finish up your cards.

This Halloween card was made by applying a multicolor ink with a brayer applicator on the back of a piece of vellum.  Apply the gold stickers in the front and color the image with LumiArt H2O watercolor paints.  Add trim on top and bottom to finish.
This sympathy card was made by sponging the 2 strips of pattern papers with distress green ink.  The tree image was stamped with black ink and stamped again without re-inking to give the shadow look.  Add ribbon at the seam between the 2 pattern papers.  Stamp sentiment on white card stock, punch out using oval punch, sponge edge with green ink.  Glue the white oval on top of large green oval.  Adhere with foam tape on top left of card.
This last minute request is an Anniversary card made by stamping the champagne glasses image with black Staz-on ink on white card stock.  Color the inside with metallic ink Gel pen.  Punch out corners, glue on top of black card stock and adhere onto silver card base with foam tape.  Adhere silver sticker sentiment onto punched out black card stock and mount it with foam tape at the bottom of card base.
This Thank You card was made by embossing glossy white card stock using Cuttlebug embossing folder and adhere to card base.  Add silk flower brads and gold flower stickers as shown.  Fold ribbon into a bow as shown an secure with brad in the center.  Wrap ribbon around card and adhere together with foam tape for a belly band to slip in/out of the card.
This purse card was made by punching out a pre-made perforated purse pattern card stock kit.  The kit comes with circles, ovals and long strips of matching patterns.  These shapes were used to decorate the purse as shown below.  A 2" x 11" black card stock was folded in half and in half again to form a "W" shape.  Each outer edges was folded back 1/3 and taped down to the inside of the purse as shown in the 2nd image.  Cupcakes and sentiments were stamped and colored on white card stock, punch out with circle punch and attached the pattern circles.  Punch out flower shapes from the left over pattern card stock and add to the inside of purse as shown.  Velcro tape was added to the flap for closure.

Email me if you have any questions.  That's it for this week.  Enjoy!

Everyone finished their cards in class.  So there was no homework!  Since it was the first day back from a long Summer off, I thought I would take it easy on you ladies.  Guess I'll have to challenge you a little more at the next class! ;o)

Here's the first Fall card.  The card base came pre-cut with the window opening.  The pumpkin was made by punching 5 - 1 inch circle out of orange card stock, folded in half and sponged the edges with brown ink.  The half circles were glued together one side at a time to form accordion-like circle.  The stem was stamped with the swirls in green ink onto a square white card stock and the pumpkin was then glued on top.  The sentiment was stamped with brown ink and punched out.  Sponged the edges with brown ink and glued with foam tape in the bottom front of the card.
This train card was made by stamping the train onto beige card stock, punched out shape and sponge edges with brown ink.  The top background paper was sponged with brown ink around the edges before adhering to the front of the card with the brown card stock at the bottom.  The train image was adhered with foam tape center on top. Add sticker sentiment on the bottom.
The car was stamped onto white card stock and matted with black card stock.  It is then adhered with foam tape onto white card stock with pearl edge and matted with black card stock.  Silver ribbon was wrapped on the bottom edge.  The sticker sentiment was added to a white punch-out shape.  The black punch-out shape was cut in half length wise and tape behind the white punch-out as shown.  Adhere with foam tape in the center of the ribbon.  The whole thing was then taped onto a white card base.
This last card is simple fun Halloween card using glittery green paper background glued onto orange card base.  The stripe pattern paper was glued onto top of a black card strip and adhered on top of the card as shown.  The BOO! word was made with die cut letters.  Small white oval shapes were glued behind the black "O" to look like eye balls before gluing them down.
That's it for now.  I can't believe 2 weeks have almost gone by and it's time for me to prepare for this Monday's class!  Have a great weekend and see you on Monday!

May 31, 2011 - Last Class Meeting for the Spring Session

Hello ladies,

Sorry for the late post.  Time just flew by as usual especially this past week.  It's the last week of school for the kids, but somehow it didn't slow down at all.  It might actually get more hectic with my son's x-country starting on Monday and his Summer school starting on Wednesday.  Poor kid!  He only gets a couple days off!  At least my daughter gets a week off.  No time off for Mom though!  Anyway, enough of my whining!  Below are the cards we made on our last class meeting.

This father's day card was an inspiration from my friend Ana.  The card is top folded.  The collar is cut from 3/4" from the top fold and about 1" from each side.  The cut edges are folded down at an angle at the 1-1/4" from the each edge.  Brads are added by punching the hole through both layers of the collar and only the top layer of the card.  The tie was made by tying a single knot on the top and tucked underneath the collar using glue dot.  The sentiment was stamped on white card stock and matted with a brown card stock.
Since Alice requested a wedding card, I thought of these heart bride & groom I saw a Dawn Studio website.  With some of my own twist, this is what we ended up with..  The groom outfit was made with a heart punch from white and black card stock.  The black jacket was made by cutting a 1/4" slit in the center and folded back, and then glued on top of the white heart.  The bow tie was made by folding a black strip of card stock in half and cut out a tiny triangular shape.  Unfold it and you get the bow tie.  The bride outfit was made by taping an embossed white heart slightly below the pink heart and adding 3 gems in front.  The Happy Marriage sentiment was placed above the cut heart, the rings were placed in the center and Best Wishes was place on the inside right above the heart so you can't see it from the front.
This hamburger card was also inspired by Dawn Studio.  The bun was made with 2 tan large ovals, 1 chocolate large oval for the meat, 1 red 1-1/4" circle for the tomato, 1 small green scallop circle for the lettuce, and 1/2 yellow square for the cheese.  The sentiment was stamped on white card stock, punched out with a 1" circle punch and mat on top of a small tan scallop circle.
This palm tree was stamped with Staz On ink on top of glossy card stock.  The background was achieved by applying the Spectrum autumn colors ink with a brayer.  The sentiment was stamped on beige card stock and punched out on large oval punch.
Well, that's it for now.  Have a great Summer everyone!  Hope to see you all back in the Fall!
