March 21, 2011 Greeting Card Making Class

Hello ladies,

Well our last class of the Winter Session has come and gone, but not everyone was able to finish their cards.  So, I'm planning an hour make-up class this coming Monday 3/28/11 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. if anyone wishes to show up.  Please email me to let me know.

Anyway, here are the cards we made in class.  This first card method is called Quilling not to be confused with Quilting.  It's made by rolling thin strips of paper into loose rolls with a quilling tool (slotted tool), glued the strip end after letting the rolls loosen off the tool.  The rolls were then pinch them into different shapes (rectangles for the candles and  tear drops for the flames).  The rig rags were wrapped around the white embossed card stock for the cake and popped-up with foam tape to be the same level as the candles.  Add sentiment tag and brads.
This faux stain glass card was made using the peel off stickers on acetate.  The color was added on the back side using Sharpies (yellow, orange, green, blue, purple and burgundy).  The darkest color was a mixture of purple and burgundy.  You will need to put a second or third coats on to get the more vibrant colors.  Allow the color to dry in between each coat.  The acetate was then tape only at 4 corners and centered behind the yellow die cut card.  A white card stock was then adhered behind the acetate to cover up for a clean look inside the card.
The hydrangea card was made using the Sizzix die cut for the flower base, leaves and branch.  The small flowers on top were made using the Martha Stewart's punch.  The flower edges were sponged with pink ink and dry embossed to give some dimensions.  The centers of the flowers were added using silver sparkle gel pen.  The leaves were also sponged with light green ink, embossed and popped-up in the center with foam tape.
The last card was made by punching butterflies in different colors as shown.  The butterflies' wings were curved with bone folder or dull end of the scissors. Add pearls to the body and tape with glue dots in the center of the white squares.  The white square were staggered on top of the matching color square of the butterfly.
That's it.  Have a great Spring break!  Hope to see you all again at the Spring Session starting April 18, 2011.

March 7, 2011 Card Making Class Updated

Hello ladies,

We're back in class after a few weeks break.  Below are the four cards we made plus one 3-D item.  This first birthday cupcake card is made by adhering a large die cut scallop music paper in the center.  Add a stamped sentiment "eat cake" on a small scallop white card stock with sponge edge in green ink and a small green bow.  The cupcake was stamped in 2-part.  The frosting was stamped on pink paper and the bottom was stamped on striped paper.  The two image was then glued together.  Add some buttons with glue dots and that finished the card.
As I probably told everyone who took my class that I have a nephew name Patrick and was born on St. Patrick's Day, we always make at least one St. Paddy's card so I can send it to him for his birthday.  ;o)
So this card was simply put together with 3 die cut shamrock leaves on top of a white poka dots card and green mat.  The green strip below that looks like a ribbon was made by using green flocks on top of a double side tape.  A stamped sentiment add the final touch.
This next card was made by stamping the sailboat with Staz On permanent black ink on top of watercolor paper and colored with watercolor pencil and water pen.  The sentiment was punched out with an oval punch and two copper brads were added on each side.
Next, we did an Iris Folding card of a watering can with stamped grass in front adorned with shiny flowers, butterflies and some blings.
Last but not least is our 3-D item.  A fashionable pink and brown purse that can be used as a gift card holder or $$ or candy nuggets.  I got this idea online from Kim Burmeister and put my own little twist to it.
Well, that's it for now.  Until next time!  Please leave me a comment or email me and let me know what you think.

Clearance Sales (Revised List 04/12/2011) - Deep Discount Parchment Crafts Tools from PCA Australia

I have a few of these tools left in my inventory and would like to sell them off at wholesale prices.  These PCA tools from Parch Crafts Australia are made entirely of high quality, durable metal.  These tools are used for parchment crafts (lacy dry embossed design on vellum papers).  You can check out the manufacturer's website at www.parchcraftaustralia.com.  Personally, I prefer these tools over the Pergamano tools because the entire tool is made out of metal unlike the Pergamano tools which come with plastic handles.
