December 9, 2013 Card Making Class

Happy New Year everyone!

Hope all of you had a wonderful time visiting with families.  I know I did even though the weather was unusually warm.  Finally, I have some time to sit down and update my blog.  So here are the cards that we made in our last class.  Better late than never I guess.
This first card was made by punching 6 hexagons out of double-sided card stock (gold polka dots on one side and green on the reverse).  With the polka dots side up, score a line from corner to corner as shown on the dotted lines in the diagram below.  Fold along the score lines to form a diamond shape.  Repeat the same for all 6 hexagons.  Punch out an extra hexagon out of some scratch paper.  Glue each folded hexagon onto the spare hexagon lining up on each side of the hexagon to form the shape below.  After gluing all the hexagons together, adhere the assembled shape onto a red scallop circle and add a red gem in the center.  Adhere the assembled piece onto green olive long card base.  Add bow, sentiment and more gems to finish.

This next card was made by stamping the flowers on the bottom of each white card panels as shown.  Color with markers and adhere the small white card panel onto a burgundy card panel.  Punch a small hole on top to attach a sheer purple ribbon and tie a simple knot.  Adhere the large white card panel onto a burgundy card base and adhere the small assembled panel as shown with foam tape.  Add sticker sentiment to finish.
This Christmas tree card was made by using a technique I saw on Splitcoast Stampers.  First, trim the red pattern paper with deckle-edge scissors and adhering onto a ivory card base.  Using a white gel pen, add dots at various spots onto a die cut green tree and let dry.  Next add some color chalk onto the white dots and spreading the colors beyond the dots to simulate the bright lights.  Add gold trim stickers for garlands as shown.  Finish off with a gold sentiment sticker.

This holly card was made using a technique called "Serviette" (means paper napkin in French).  The image is from a cocktail napkin glue onto white card panel using Mod Podge for the card background.  The 3D affect was done by adding a second layer with only a few of the holly leaves and berries glue onto vellum, cut out and embossed before adhering onto the card background with foam tape.  The image background is then adhered onto red card panel before adhering onto white card base.  Add sentiment onto small red card panel and adhere on the bottom of card base as shown to finish.

November 25, 2013 Card Making Class

Hello ladies,

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and getting back to a good week.  Below are the cards we made at our last class meeting.

This New Year card was made by adhering a die cut white circle onto a gold card panel.  The gold snowflake border sticker was adhered around the circle with the gold "Happy New Year" sentiment in the middle of the circle.  Wrap the gold ribbon around the gold panel before adhering the panel onto the ivory card base.  Glue down the pre-cut flowers with glue dots as shown to finish card.
This orchid card was made by adding the silver orchid sticker onto white watercolor card panel  Color the orchid using Twinkling H2O watercolors with water brush as shown.  Tie a pale green ribbon around panel before adhering onto the yellow card base.  Add sentiment to finish card.
This next coffee cups card was made by stamping the coffee cups and sentiment on tan pattern paper and punch out with 1" circle punch.  Punch out 3 large circles of the dark brown pattern paper.  Adhere the punched circles onto clear circle stickers before adhering them to the larger dark brown circles as shown.
Adhere a strip of tan pattern paper on the inside edge and one on the center front of the card base as shown.  Adhere the circles with foam tape onto card front and the faux eyelet stickers in between as shown.  Add sticker sentiment to finish.
This next butterflies and flowers card was made by adhering the butterflies vellum paper onto the pink window card panel.  (The panel was created by using Spellbinder frame to cut out the opening.)  Adhere the pink panel onto white card base with foam tape .  Glue paper flowers in bottom right corner as shown.  Finish with sentiment sticker.
That's it for now.  Our last class meeting for the Fall session is this coming Monday.  Everyone is welcome to bring some little treats to share.  Have a great week and see you all on Monday!

Hello ladies,

Sorry for the delay.  This post is long overdue.  I'm combining the last two classes together since I missed my last post.

Below are the cards from our October 14 class:

This autumn leaf card was made using the die cut leaf from the negative part of the leaf card made in the September card class.  The die cut was sponged with red brick ink all around the edges.  Stamp swirls onto beige card panel using gingerbread ink and attach stamped panel onto gingerbread card stock..  Finally adhere the panel onto beige card base and finish off with the sentiment and a string bow.

This iris folding bauble was made by cutting out the image using Spellbinder ornament die.  Layer the strips of pattern papers following the pattern.  Matt the iris panel onto red card stock using double-sided tape before adhering onto white card base.  Punch out 2 holy leaves and glue on the top of the ornament.  Add 3 red gems to finish off the card as shown.
This floral card was made by punch 6 five-petal flowers and sponged all edges.  Adhere pattern polka dot panel onto beige card stock.  Wrap pink ribbon around before adhering onto pink card base.  Punch 3 leave clusters out of olive green card stock.  Adhere 2 flowers on top of each other as shown.  Add black beads in center of flowers and glue leaves as shown.  Add sticker sentiment to finish card.
Below are the cards from our October 28 class:

This dragonflies card was made by coloring a watercolor card panel with green and blue watercolor pencils in alternating pattern as shown.  Using a water brush, brush over the watercolor pencil areas to wash out color as shown.  Let dry before adding the dragonflies stickers on top.  Tie aqua sheer ribbon around card Punch out border of aqua card panel on one side and adhere to white card base.  Adhere watercolor panel onto card as shown.  Add aqua gems and sentiment to finish.
This cupcake birthday card was made by adhering the ivory panel onto stripe pattern paper and onto the large background paper before adhering onto ivory card base.  Punch an ivory circle and a green scallop circle.  Glue together and adhere a wooden cupcake with large glue onto circle as shown.  Adhere the scallop onto card and add sticker sentiment to finish card.
This wreath card was make by punch 24 small scallop circle out of double-sided green card stock.  Adhere the candy cane pattern paper onto green card panel before adhering it to the ivory card base.  Arrange the green scallop circle in alternate pattern onto a 2" ivory card circle to form a wreath.  Adhere a red & gold ribbon bow onto wreath with glue dot as shown.  Finish off with sentiment sticker.
This angel card was made by adhering the pattern paper onto green card base as shown.  Punch out angel from white card stock.  Then using a circle punch upside down, center the punched angel to punch out circle.  Punch square label out of read card stock.  Using foam tape, tape angel circle onto red label and tape label onto pattern paper as shown.  Glue a gold ribbon bow onto card with glue dot  Stamp sentiment with red ink onto white card stock.  Center and punch out stamped sentiment using label punch.  Punch out another label with red card stock.  Cut in half lengthwise and tape behind sentiment to create a border as shown.  Adhere the sentiment panel with foam tape onto card to finish.

September 30, 2013 Card Making Class

Hello ladies,
Hope you had a great week and enjoying your weekend.  Below are the cards we made this past Monday.

This flower card was made using brush tip of Tim Holtz distress markers to apply colors onto an acrylic block, spritz some water, and then stamp the acrylic block onto some watercolor paper to transfer the ink.  Use a water brush to blend the ink on the watercolor paper.  Let dry before stamping the flower onto card with black ink.  Adhere the watercolor panel onto black card panel and tie ribbon around the bottom.  Adhere the panel onto card base as shown.  Stamp sentiment on white card stock and punch out using Stampin' Up label punch.  Punch out another label punch using black card stock, cut in half lengthwise, trim ends and glue to the back of the white label.  Adhere as shown to finish.
This next card was made using the quilling technique.  Using orange, red and brown 1/8" quilling papers to make the leaves and stems and glue in place as shown.  Sponge edges of white card panel with orange ink and tie brown ribbon at the bottom as shown.  Adhere onto embossed pattern card stock and adhere everything onto white card base.  Add sticker sentiment to finish card.
This pirate card is a pop-up card.  I will try to explain, but it may not make much sense unless you actually do it.  The outside black card is measured 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" and the inside gray card is measured 3-3/4" x 5".   Adhere pattern paper onto front as shown.  The images were rubbed onto white card stock and trimmed leaving about 1/16" borders around.   Adhere images as shown.  Some images are rubbed directly onto card.
Fold the inside gray card in half and measure and mark the folded edge at 1-1/4", 1-3/4", 2-3/4" & 3-1/4".  Cut about 3/4" deep at the first two marks (1-1/4" & 1-3/4") and about 1" deep at the second set of marks (2-3/4" & 3-1/4").  Push out the tabs, fold and adhere the gray card inside of black card base.
This last card was a simple one since the quilling took everyone some time to finish.  It was made using cupcakes and candles stickers onto white card panel.  Punch out 3 different cupcakes using glitter papers and adhere onto card with foam tapes as shown.  Adhere the white panel onto kraft card base to finish.
Well, that's it for now.  Have a great week and see you on the 14th.

September 16, 2013 - New Fall Session Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

It has been a busy Summer shuttling kids back and forth to all their activities.  Glad that was over for now!  Hope you had a great Summer.

Our first class started last Monday and I would like to extend a warm welcome to our four new students, Holidae, Carene, Maxine and Lee!  ... and a warm welcome back to my regulars as well, Ellen, Lesley, Carol, Barbara, Lynne and Romy!

Below are the cards we made on Monday.  This first card was done by first stamping the butterflies with Perfect Medium ink onto black card panel.  Then using the small paint brush, apply blue, purple and gold Perfect Pearl powders onto the stamp image.  Brush off excess with the large brush and spritz lightly with water to seal in the colors.  Tie gold ribbon onto bottom of black panel and adhere the panel onto gold sheet and adhere onto white card base.  Finish off with the gold sticker sentiment.
This next card was made by first cut out the leaf image using a Spellbinder leaf die out of the mustard card panel.  Place the mustard card panel on top of white card panel and trace the leaf pattern onto white card panel.  Remove mustard panel and set aside.  Add double-sided tape or runner tape onto the leaf image of the white panel.  Layer the strips of color papers next to each other as shown to cover the image.  Add ribbon to the bottom of the mustard panel as shown and tape on top of white panel.  Stamp sentiment onto white card stock and punch out using scallop oval punch.  Sponge orange ink around edges of scallop oval and adhere onto card panel with foam tape.  Mount the panel onto olive green card base.
This Halloween card was made by adhering the pattern papers onto white card base as shown.  Adhere candy corn ribbon in between the two pattern papers.  Add the ghost image onto card as shown.  The ghost image was cut from a fabric panel and backed with double-sided tape to keep image from fraying.
This birthday card was made by adhering 3/4" wide color strips of card stocks onto white card base.  Stamp cake and confetti images twice onto white card stocks with black ink.  Punch out images using 1" circle punch.  Adhere circle images onto card with foam tape.  Finish off with Silver sentiment on the bottom of card.
That's it for now.  Have a great week and see you on 9/30!

May 13, 2013 Card Making Class

Hello ladies,

Wow time flies and our last class for the Spring session has come and gone.  Sorry we missed you in class Carol!  Here's a recap of the cards we made.
This puppy card is made using a technique called Fancy Folding with die cuts.  It's similar to Iris Folding using a pattern but without the counting.. It's much simpler and everyone in class gets to choose the color and pattern papers they want.  It is always a nice surprise when everyone turns the card over when finished.  The corners were made by using an EK Success photo corner punch on all 4 corners of a black panel to slip in the white panel for matting before adhering to the white card base.  Add sentiment and bow to finish.
This lounge chair card was made by stamping the image with black Memories ink onto white card panel.  A mask image was made by stamping the same image on a post-it note.  The umbrella top was then cut out to use as a mask before sponging on the Tim Holtz spice marmalade and peeled paint distress ink for the background.  Peel off the mask and color the umbrella top with Marvy markers.  Punch out the image using a large circle punch.  Adhere to the black scallop circle.  Adhere the grass paper onto the bottom half of a beige card base.  Adhere the image panel onto card base as shown with foam tape.  I left the sentiment off as I haven't decide what to put on quite yet, but I think it would make a good Father's Day card.
This blue flower card was made by punching 3 flowers out of blue card stock using Martha Stewart cornflower punch (I think).  I cut a slit in between each petal to give the full daisy look and sponge edges with blue ink.  Glue all 3 flowers on top of each other.  Punch out 3 set of leaves out of green card stock and set aside.  Adhere the blue card panel onto white card base, and adhere the blue pattern paper onto blue card panel.  Adhere olive green sheer ribbon with glue dot as shown and adhere flower with glue dot.  Tuck in the leaves and adhere large pearl in the flower center.  Stamp sentiment on white card stock and punch out.  Adhere onto card with foam tape to finish.
This last card is made by first die cut the tree in the center of a white card panel.  Center the panel on to green card panel and trace the out line of the tree using a pencil.  Remove the white card panel.  Using 2 different width of double-sided tapes, place them onto green card panel at a diagonal starting with the narrower tape and then with the wider tape right next to the narrow tape in an alternate fashion as shown.  Peel off the backing papers of the narrow tapes first and sprinkle some dark green flock on.  Rub the flock onto the narrow tape to get an even coat and dust the excess off.  Now peel off the backing paper off the wide tapes, sprinkle the light green flock and rub in for an even coverage.  Return any excess flock back into its container.  Sponge blue and green ink onto white card die cut panel as shown.  Punch corners of white card panel and green card panel before adhering them together.  Wrap brown ribbon onto the bottom portion of card panel and adhere onto beige card base.  Stamp sentiment and punch out using Fiskar scallop circle punch.  Adhere with foam tape to finish.

Well, that's it for now.  The Fall session will start again in September.  I will send out a reminder when the schedule is set up.  I will be updating my blog from time to time through the Summer.  If you add your email address in the box on the right margin of my blog where it says "Follow by email", you will receive an email automatically every time I update my blog.  Don't worry, there's no spam mail.  Just my blog updates.  So sign up and look for my email!  Have a great Summer and hope to see you back in the Fall!

April 29, 2013 Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

Sorry I'm a little late in posting.  Busy as usual!  Below are the cards we made at our last class.  Didn't think I was going to be able to finish this post.  I was having problem loading the card pictures.  It turns I was too impatient to wait 5-10 minutes for each photo to load!  Anyway, glad it's working now.

The butterfly card was made using the Serviette (paper napkin) and Mod Podge technique.  First separate the image from the white part of the two napkins for two of the same butterfly image.  Using a sponge brush, apply an even coat of the Mod Podge all over the white card panel and the vellum panel (be sure to hold down the corners of the vellum as it tends to curl up).  Turn a dry iron on between wool and cotton level.  Place the wrong side of the napkin image onto the glue side of the white card panel and iron evenly for a few seconds.  This will be your background card.  Trim the napkin for the background card by following the edges of the white card panel.  Now, place the second napkin with only the butterfly image onto the vellum and iron.  Cut along the outline of the butterfly without the antenna.  Turn the vellum butterfly image over and dry emboss the lines of the butterfly to give texture.  Add foam tape on to the back of the vellum butterfly image and adhere onto the background card.  Punch two green strips using the EK Success daisy punch and glue along the top and bottom edges of the white card base.  Adhere the background card onto card base and brush some glitter glue onto the butterfly with your finger to finish the card.

This next music note card is made by stamping the music image using clear Versamark ink onto glossy card panel.  Roll the Spectrum ink onto the stamped glossy card panel in one direction and repeat until you achieved the color intensity you want.  Glue onto black card panel and trim following the shape leaving a  1/8" border.  Tie aqua sheer ribbon around card panel as shown and adhere onto aqua card base.  Stamp sentiment and punch out using scallop circle punch.  Adhere with foam tape onto card as shown.

The last peacock feather card was made by stamping the feather using Perfect Pearl Medium ink pad onto black card stock.  Using the thin brush, pick up a small dab of the gold Perfect Pearl powder and paint onto the center of the feather.  Next, clean brush and pick up a dab of green powder and paint around the center the gold color.  Finish off the remaining feather with blue powder as shown.  Round off corners of black card panel, adhere to white square panel and adhere onto turquoise card panel.  Tie gold ribbon around the bottom of the turquoise panel before adhering onto white card base.  Stamp sentiment and punch out using Stampin' Up punch.  Add a gold bling onto the center of the feather image and adhere sentiment onto to card using foam tape to finish off.

Only three cards this time since there were three different techniques that took quite a bit of time to do.  Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day everyone!  See you on Monday.

April 15, 2013 Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

Another busy week went by.  Had to take my son to the doctors for his fever and his eyes.  Thank goodness nothing serious from both visits.  Below is a recap from our last class.  I took the pictures of these cards standing up.  The first card and last card look good, but the middle two look sort of squashed for some reason.  Oh well!
This floral basket card was made using the Iris Folding method with light and dark brown pattern papers for the iris pattern.  Store bought flowers and punched leaves were added to top the basket.  Drops of white enamel accents by Ranger were added to the center of the flowers to finish off.
This next card was made by using a Fiskar scallop border punch on lime card stock, add peach pattern paper on top and adhere to the side of the card base.  Circles stickers were added as shown and finished off with orange and green blings.
This lilac card was made using the Sizzix die for the base of the lilac, the branch and the leaf.  The flowers were punched out using Martha Steward punch. Purple ink was added to the center of each flower before gluing to the lilac die cut.  Sponge brown ink along the edge of the branch and olive green ink around the leaf and the veins before adhering onto card base.
This hibiscus card was made by stamping the flower randomly onto red card panel using fire brick distress ink by Tim Holtz and repeat stamping one hibiscus on square white panel.  Adhere the panels onto black card stock as shown.  Wrap ribbon around the bottom part of the card before adhering onto card base.  Stamp sentiment and punch out with Fiskar scallop oval punch.  Adhere on top of ribbon as shown to finish card.
By the way, I added a link to my Pinterest page on the right margin where I pin the cards that I've made over the years.  Check it out and let me know what you think.  Well that's it for now.   See you on 4/29 for our next class.  Have a great week!

Spring Session - April 1st, 2013 First Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

Well Spring is here even though it's still chilly out there. We had our first class last Monday and I had a full house!  A warm welcome to all the new faces! All the running around is good exercise for me as I so needed it!

Anyway, this first card is short version of a teabag folding method.  The flower was made by punching five 1-1/16" circles out of double-sided pattern paper (orange on one side and green on the other).  The circles were first folded in half to find the center, and then the bottom half of each circle was folded into a "V" shape for each petal.  Put the five petal together with the "V" pointing in the center to form the flower.  You may need to adjust it as you go along.   Adhere onto green stripe circle sticker and adhere onto card base.  Add orange strip sticker across and poka dots oval on the bottom of card base.  Add gold sticker sentiment and orange bling as shown to finish card.
This next card was inspired by Darlene Design using Tim Holtz distress inks and sponge applicator for the background onto a white die cut from Spellbinder.  The image was stamped with black ink on top.  The 1" blue paper strip was adhered onto a white card base before adding the stamped image.  Add the silver sticker sentiment to finish.
This next card was made using an embossing folder (either Sizzix or Cuttlebug) on a light brown card stock for the texture background.  The circles were cut using Spellbinder circle dies on white and brown card stock.  Stamp bear with brown ink and adhere the circles together as shown.  Adhere the green pattern paper onto brown card stock before adhering onto texture background.  Tie a ribbon around the bottom half of the assemble panel before adhering to card base.  I left this card without sentiment so I can add it later.  It would probably make a good masculine birthday card.
This last card was inspired from the Papercrafts magazine.  The white background was embossed with the poka dots embossing folder from Cuttlebug and rounded off the corners.  The pot was die cut with mustard card stock and the Sizzix original pot die.  The edges of the pot were sponged with orange ink.  The leaves were punched with EK Success punch and sponged with green The veins on the leaves were scored with a dry embossing tool. The flowers were punched out of pink card stock using EK Success small flower punch and embossed before gluing them onto card as shown.  The pink flag was added by popping up the middle with foam tape and finished off with a silver sticker sentiment.
Well that's it for now.  Our next class will be Monday April 15th (tax day) from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.  Have a great week!

March 18, 2013 Card Making Class

Hello everyone,

Hope you are enjoying the nice weather we have.  Below are the cards we made in our last class meeting for the Winter Session.  The Spring Session will start next Monday April 1st, 2013.  It's not April fools!  There is a total of 4 class meetings on 4/1, 4/15, 4/29 and 5/13/2013 with new time from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.  Please email me if you're planning to sign up for the class so I can prepare enough materials for everyone.

The Kitty cards are done using a technique called "Fancy Folding".  Similar to Iris Folding, but easier.  (without counting the numbers) ;o)  I let everyone pick the different color strips of papers that I have to make their own kitty cats.  So everyone's card came out differently and I think everyone is happy with the outcome.  Below are some various samples I made with different color schemes.

This coffee card was made using Stampin'Up stamp set called "Express Yourself".  The coffee beans were stamped randomly on brown card stock using brown ink.  Adhere the brown card stock onto a olive green card base and add a thin strip of stripe pattern pape as shown.  Stamp the coffee mug and steam onto white card stock, color with makers, and adhere onto a brown card panel as mat.  Adhere the panel with foam tape onto card base as shown.
This tree card was made by die cutting octagons using white, dark green and black card stock with Spellbinder Octagon dies.  Add tree onto white octagon and layer onto green and black octagons.  Layer the diamond pattern papers onto black panels and adhere onto dark green card stock as shown.  Adhere the panel onto white card base and adhere octagon panel on top with foam tape.  Stamp sentiment on white card stock with black ink and punch out shape with Stampin'Up designer label punch.  Punch out another label using black card stock, cut in half lengthwise and adhere behind white label as mat.  Adhere sentiment onto card with foam tape.
This last card was made by die cutting the cupcake out of pink card stock, and brown poka dots (cut out the base only).   Sponge the top with pink ink to add some dimension.  Adhere cupcake with foam tape onto ivory circle.  Sponge the Kraft card panel and Kraft card base with brown ink.  Tie pink ribbon around the Kraft panel and assemble the card together as shown.
That's it for now.  Until next time.

March 4, 2013 Card Making Class

Hello everyone,
It has been a busy week with work and doctor appointments.  At least I get to go to the Rubber Stamp Convention on Saturday and met up with Alice and Mona.  Spending money again as usual, but it was fun!
Just a quick post to recap the cards we did in class a week ago.  This dress card was made using Starform stickers (dress and dress form).  The burgundy card base was 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 4-1/4 and 8-1/2".  I die cut a circle on the 8-1/2" score line and adhere a 4" x 4" floral pattern paper onto the front card stock.  Adhere the lace pattern paper onto the front flap as shown.  Tie a small strip of burgundy ribbon to the right opening as shown and adhere sentiment sticker.
A burgundy scallop circle slightly smaller than the circle opening was adhered onto the card front in the center of the opening as shown below.  A smaller white circle was adhered onto the burgundy scallop circle.  Adhere the dress sticker onto the rose pattern paper and cut out.  Adhere the dress form on to the white circle and adhere the dress cut-out onto the dress form.  Adhere the gloves and heels onto rose pattern paper and cut out.  Adhere the cut outs onto card as shown to finish.
This card is long overdue.  I don't know about you, but time always seems to slip away from me.  So I was really happy to find this dollar clear stamp.  It says "Better late then never..." on the inside.  Simple stamp with black ink and color with watercolor pencil on watercolor paper.  Mat on brown card stock to match the card base.  Add silver brad stickers as shown to finish.

This butterflies card was made using Stampin'Up die.  We used the smaller butterflies in a previous card and thought I would used the large one in this Spring card.  The white strip actually has a shimmery background.  I bought the squares pre-cut.  Th butterflies were adhered onto squares with glue dots in the center only.  Add clear gems in the center and stickers to finish.
This last card was made using a chalking technique with Versamark ink.  I know some might not like it, but it actually very easy and fun.  The pink panel was made by using a Spellbinder die to cut out shape and sponge on pink chalk using a cotton ball.  The image was then stamped onto panel using clear Versamark ink and apply more pink chalk with same cotton ball onto stamped image.  Like magic, the image appeared in bright pink color as shown.  A shimmer pearl mist (by Ranger) was sprayed lightly on top to give it some shine.  Unfortunately, you can really see it in the picture.  Tie a burgundy ribbon on the right, add blings on the left and finished off with sentiment on a scallop oval on the right with some foam tape.  Since the burgundy card base was not very sturdy, a rose piece of paper was added on the inside.  It also provide a lighter background to add personalized greetings.

Next Monday March 18th will be our last class for the Winter Session.  The Spring Session will start on April 1st (it's no April fools).  There will be 4 class meetings again, 4/1, 4/15, 4/29 and 5/13.  So be sure to sign up!  Have a great week!

Spring 2024 - Gel Printing Workshop

Hello everyone, It was so nice to welcome all my new and returning students to my Spring one-day gel printing workshop. Below is a quick rec...
